4 CAM D430 Setup with USB2 Hub

Hi Deepak  In Intel's multiple camera white-paper document they tested up to 4 cameras with the AmazonBasics powered USB3 model.  I used an AmazonBasics hub myself with RealSense cameras based on that recommendation and have never had problems with it over a period of years.

    https://dev.intelrealsense.com/docs/multiple-depth-cameras-configuration#2-multi-camera-considerations

You should choose a hub that supports 5 gigabits per second bandwidth.  Each camera will consume a certain amount of bandwidth, and you need a large enough total bandwidth allowance to handle the bandwidth consumption of 4 cameras simultaneously.  At low 640x480 resolution, a 5 Gbps bandwidth should be sufficient for handling the data of all those cameras.

If you cannot find a suitable USB2 hub, a solution may be to obtain a USB3 hub and use USB2 cables with the cameras so that they are detected as USB2 devices.  A device on a USB2 cable cannot be detected as USB3 because USB2 cables lack some extra wires inside them that enable USB3 speed.

If your project requires a USB2 hub and you would like to follow the AmazonBasics recommendation, this brand is usually USB3 but there is a USB2 model that is findable if you search for amazonbasics hub 7 port tower

You could also try linking your existing hubs together and dividing the cameras across them (such as 2 on each hub).  The USB standard allows up to 5 hubs to be 'daisy-chained' together on the same computer.

MartyG , Thanks for the reply. I will follow your suggestions and update.

Have you ever tried the 4 cam setup with a USB2 Hub ?

You are very welcome.  I look forward to your next report.

No, I have not used multicam with a USB2 hub.

Hi MartyG , upon further testing with externally powered USB2 hub, we are facing some issues. All the 4 vision processors in our setup are not working and they are overheating. Is there a forum or support from INTEL for users facing this issue with overheating of vision processors. Is there any repair or exchange service offered?

Hi Deepak  Intel do not offer a repair service for RealSense products.  If they were recently purchased then you may be able to return them to the retailer that you purchased them from.

Overheating might be caused by a bad USB cable or a glitch on the USB port.  If you are using a hub and the overheating occurs on all ports then it might be more likely to be a cable quality issue.  You said in your opening comment though that 3 of the 4 D430 were working.  Does the overheating issue only occur with USB2 hubs or does it also occur if you plug the camera directly into the computer?

Conceivably heating could also occur if the powered hub was having excess mains electricity delivered to it, which could account for all ports on the hub having the issue.  Is the casing of the hub hot to the touch during use?

The vision processors are getting hot even when connected directly to the computer. I think something happened to them as I also have new vision processors which are working fine with D430 modules.

Is there any warranty for these processors?

If you believe that they are faulty then please contact the supplier that you purchased them from to enquire about a return.  Regardless of which supplier you purchased them from, there will typically be an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) return period after purchase.

The 30-day RMA return period will not be valid for us. I am looking for any exchange service or any help with repairing or find out the key component which may be causing the board to overheat.

Intel do not provide a repair service for RealSense hardware products.

I am not a member of the support team on this Intel RealSense Help Center site, I volunteer here.  I will highlight your case to the Help Center support team so that they can provide you with advice about your situation.
