Intel D457 Hardware and Software Interfacing
Hi all,
I saw the following post that provided some information on how to interface with the D457 https://support.intelrealsense.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/15142091952147-he-interface-device-that-connects-the-Intel-RealSense-Depth-Camera-D457-to-a-PC-?input_string=Intel%20D457%20Hardware%20and%20Software%20Interfacing.
I like the waterproof nature of the D457 and the potential to use a higher bandwidth interface moving forward. In the meantime though I would just like to connect the camera via USBC for simplicity and testing as well as using a Java library that someone wrote for the camera.https://github.com/cansik/librealsense-java/releases. In one of their releases, they said they added support for the D455.
So just to reiterate what was said in this other post. If I change the dip switch to switch it to USB mode, the FAKRA connector will no longer have data and when I plug the device in over USB it will show up as a D455, and interfacing with it via software should be identical.
Given I like the waterproof nature does anyone have any recommendations for waterproofing say the D455?
Thank you

Hi Gatordevin Yes, I can confirm that the FAKRA connection does not operate when the mode switch is set to USB, and the camera is detected and operates as D455 instead of D457. In USB mode it is not necessary to use the special driver and the deserializer board that a FAKRA connection requires.
It would be possible to create a custom waterproof housing to place a D455 camera in, like the example below from an underwater project, though using a D457 in USB mode would be much easier.
