How to integrate Intel D457 with PC via FAKRA/GMSL?
I bought a new Intel real sense D457 depth camera. When I connected it to PC via USB it doesn't detected. After some I changed the camera to USB Mode by changing the switch on the camera. Now it is detected and works as a D455 model. I want to run as D457 model with my PC. Is there is any way to connect the D457 model with PC via FAKRA/GMSL?

Hi Balachandar10301 The easiest way to use the camera in D457 mode would be with a Connect Tech computer based on Jetson technology, as the Connect Tech product has built-in support for D457.
If you wish to use D457 with your own PC computer then it is necessary to purchase a compatible deserializer hardware component, such as the one ay the link below.

It is also necessary to convert (port) Intel's MIPI reference driver for use with the PC computer and deserializer component that you have chosen. Intel are unable to provide assistance with the driver porting process, so you would have to use your own developer to do so.

In summary, if a GMSL / FAKRA connection is not a compulsory requirement for what you wish to use the D457 for then I would recommend using the USB mode instead as it does not require a deserializer or driver porting.

Hi MartyG I am going to use Intel Real Sense D457 for real time 3D pose estimation and stereo depth estimation. Can I use USB mode for this application? Is there is any performance difference between two modes? Is there is any difference between USB mode and GMSL/FAKRA mode? Because I turned the switch to USB mode present in upper side of the camera. Then only my PC detects the camera. Does the USB mode supports the provided ROS packages? Is it compulsory to use GMSL/FAKRA mode? Please give some clarifications.

GMSL / FAKRA has faster data transfer speed than USB. However, using the camera in D455 mode on a USB connection would be fine for the application that you have planned. It provides the same feature-set and performance as the D455 model, with the added benefit of the camera casing's IP65 environmental protection against dust and water.
Information about the D457 and GMSL / FAKRA can be found at the official D457 product page at the link below.

Hi MartyG Thank you for your valuable clarification. So the only difference between D457 and D455 model is USB mode and GMSL/FRANKA for faster data transfer. Am I correct? If wrong please tell me the difference. Also tell, using D457 model in USB mode will affect the camera in any manner or it is preferable. Because instead of buying D457 I will buy D455 model next time.
