Broken D435 Camera
Hello Intel Guys,
I have a D435 Camera, which is a great product. I am impressed. Thanks for that.
I am currently active into the Robotics Research activities in Fraunhofer CML institute in Hamburg, Germany. Mostly into Perception + Manipulation Research. But during my last project, my camera was attached into the mobile Robot with the Arm. The Camera has detected the Object and the Arm has supposed to plan the trajectory to achieve that pose but somehow I have under estimated the speed of the Arm and the Arm end-effector has hit the camera front glass and damaged it with some scratches.
Now my question to you guys, what should I do in this situation. Is there any chance to replace the glass somewhere in Germany. Does it make sense or its a better idea to buy the new camera because the replacement of the glass may change some internal parameters...?
Looking forward your views here... Thanks

Hi Kaushalkumar Patel There is not a separately purchasable official replacement for the front glass, but you can create your own front covering. Pages 116-117 of the data sheet document for the 400 Series cameras provide guidance about selecting a cover material.

You should be able to use the camera without the front glass though if you remove it. The image below shows the D430 depth camera module inside the casing, which has its own protective enclosure. The depth module can be used without an outer casing and front glass. Having front glass though protects the sensors against dust and humidity. And if the end-effector hit the front glass before, there is a chance that it could happen again and damage the exposed sensor lenses.
Another consequence of not having a front glass would be that a value of -4.2 mm should be added to depth measurements to take account of depth having to be measured from the sensor lenses instead of the front glass.
