Inquiry on Connecting RealSense D457 via Fakra GMSL to a PC
I recently purchased the Intel RealSense D457 camera, which features a Fakra GMSL connection as the default mode. I would like to connect this camera to my PC (with NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU) using the GMSL interface.
Could you please advise on the following:
- What additional hardware (e.g., deserializer boards) is required to connect the Fakra GMSL interface to my PC?
- Are there specific deserializer boards you recommend for outputting USB or Ethernet signals from the camera?
- Are there any detailed setup instructions or documentation for this connection type?
I appreciate your assistance and look forward to your guidance

Thank you for your previous guidance. I tested the camera using the USB connection it detected as a D455, and while it works, I sometimes experience glitches, and the performance feels a bit slow for my application. To improve my setup and compare the GMSL Fakra mode, I want to connect the D457 to my PC.
I’m considering the following hardware for this purpose:
- Deserializer Board: LI-GMSL2-IPX-DESER from Leopard Imaging.
- Cable: Fakra HSD USB Cable. (this is an example of what I believe might work).
Could you please confirm if this setup will work to connect the D457 to my PC (Dell with a 13th Gen Intel CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU)? Additionally, if you have suggestions for other suitable Fakra USB cables or additional recommendations for the setup. I aim to use this configuration to test performance and compare it with other architectures.
Your expertise and any additional recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

D457 is usually used in GMSL with Jetson computing boards rather than PC. The RealSense MIPI driver provides official support for the Jetson 'AGX Xavier' and 'Orin' models. To use the driver with other computers, it needs to be converted ('ported') for the particular hardware that you own. This is something that must be done by the customer (ideally by a programming development team) as Intel cannot provide assistance for the porting process.
Information about GMSL cabling can be found at the link below.
