Future of RealSense – Questions Regarding Long-Term Support and Roadmap
Hello RealSense team and community,
I’ve been following the recent updates about Intel’s plan to spin off RealSense into an independent company, and I’m glad to hear the technology may continue to be developed and supported.
As someone considering RealSense for current and future projects, I’d appreciate some clarity on a few points:
- Long-term support – Will the existing SDK (librealsense) and firmware continue to be maintained actively?
- Hardware availability – Should we expect continued production and stock of popular models like the D435 and D455?
- Future roadmap – Is there any official plan to release new models or updated sensors under the new entity?
- Developer support – Will the community forums, GitHub repositories, and technical support channels remain active and staffed?
I ask this both as a developer and a potential buyer, trying to decide between RealSense and other solutions. The hardware has always been impressive — I just want to make sure it’s a safe investment going forward.
Thanks in advance for any insights you can share.

Hello Shaigiv There are not details to share regarding the RealSense spin-off at this time. There will likely be more information in the second half of this year. Intel also have a long-standing position of not commenting on possible future RealSense plans and new products in advance.
Customers can be assured though that it will be "business as usual" at the current time and after the spin-off and they need not be concerned.
