F455 false positive authentication after >20 days runtime
Hi All,
I'm using RealSenseID F455 as a door opener as described in this description:
https://www.hackster.io/joergwall/smart-door-opener-with-3d-facial-authentication-222f20
C/C++ code used can be found here:
https://github.com/JoergWall/smartdoorF455
I'm running this solution successfully for 6 months now, however recently the camera started to give false positive authentication. It seems to happen when the camera runs for longer than ~20 days. The false positive authentication happens almost immediately after triggering the authentication process (<0,1 s). The reliably working authentication takes around ~0,7s.
Did anybody else experience the effect of false positive authentication after longer runtime period?
I didn't replace the F455 camera yet with a backup device I bought, this will be the next step for me to take...
Thx & Regards,
Joerg
BTW: It's a shame that Intel has discontinued this outstanding and unique product!

Hi Joerg Wall,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Referring to Table 2-13: Intel® RealSense™ ID Solution F455 Temperature Specifications in Intel® RealSense™ ID Solution F450 and F455 Product Datasheet, the backside case temperature should be within 0°C to 55°C.
On another note, referring to Section 2.3.3 Power Profiling, to minimize thermal dissipation design requirements for integrating the module into a system, it is recommended to maintain a 1.5s cycle mode of work.
Face authentication is designed to work within this time span, but if the module is operating continuously this will cause heating which may not be dissipated by design.
For more information, please refer to Intel® RealSense™ ID Solution F450 and F455 Product Datasheet.
Hope it helps!

Dear Wan,
is there a possibility to remotely monitor the temperature of the F455 device?
However, our dooropener is located outside in a from sun and rain protected hallway before the main door entrance. It’s actually a cold place and the backplate of the camera does not feel warmer than the surroundings - but I’ll keep an eye on it.
The toughest problems in support are intermittent problems - issues like this one that occasionally happen, but are not able to reproduce. I made a backup copy of the stored profiles to a backup F455 device - since then the camera works fine now for days already. We only authenticate ~10 times a day, as it’s a private house and more of a ‘hobby’ smart home project.
thanks a lot for your inquiries - next time the false positive authentication happens, I’ll try to record a small video. However this could take weeks to happen…
Regards,
Joerg

Hi Joerg Wall,
Here is an article on how to query device temperature in Python for Intel® RealSense™ D400 series and Intel® RealSense™ LiDAR L500 Series. However, we cannot guarantee that it will work on Intel® RealSense™ ID Solution F455 Peripheral.

Dear Wan,
the issue with false positive authentication was a coding bug on my side.
The code published here
https://github.com/JoergWall/smartdoorF455
works fine, however.
Meanwhile the Intel RealSense ID F455 triggers the buzzer for the main door of our house to a group of 6 persons successfully for 7 months without any issues. Intel RealSense ID F455 rocks :-)
Thx,
Joerg
