passive illumination mode for D435i/L515
Hi,
Is it possible to use environmental IR-radiadion instead of active IR illumination (so to say kind of passive mode) for the D435 or new LiDAR L515 depth sensors? I'm interested in short range observations and 3D-measurement of warm objects.
Thanks in Advance for Information.
Regards,
Dimitrii

The RealSense 400 Series cameras can use natural ambient light instead of their built-in IR projector to analyse the depth in the scene. Unlike many depth cameras, the stronger the light, the better the 400 Series performs. In a well-lit scene, the IR projector could be turned off.
The final page (Section 15) of Intel's camera tuning guide offers advice on using the camera in natural light conditions.

The forthcoming L515 is Lidar depth-sensing technology, rather than the Stereo depth sensing technology used in the 400 Series. It is best suited for use indoors or in controlled lighting conditions.
